Bellingham Brothers Set for Historic England Debut Together
Jude and Jobe Bellingham are poised to make history, potentially becoming the first siblings to represent England together since the Neville brothers 19 years ago. While some may see Jobe’s senior call-up as surprising, it’s been a long-awaited milestone for the young midfielder. Following a path similar to his older brother Jude, a standout for England and Real Madrid, Jobe has steadily climbed the ranks since his days at Birmingham City. Jobe made his Birmingham debut at just 16 years and 107 days—69 days older than Jude was at his first senior appearance for the club. After his time at Birmingham, he moved to Sunderland, where he played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League, before sealing a £31 million transfer to Borussia Dortmund at 19. Jude took a similar route, moving to Dortmund at 17 before rising to stardom and eventually joining Real Madrid. Being compared to one of the best midfielders in the world can be daunting, but Jobe is determined to carve out his own legacy. He sports 'Jobe' on his jersey, a nod to his individuality, a recommendation from a coach to highlight that he’s forging his own path. While Jobe operates a bit deeper in midfield compared to Jude, he brings his own physical presence and ball skills to the game. He currently captains England's Under-21 side, and national team manager Thomas Tuchel has noted that Young Lions boss Lee Carsley has been advocating for Jobe’s rise to the senior squad. “Jobe is the standout player,” Tuchel remarked. “He’s the captain, the door should always be open for him based on his performances.” With Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly suspended and Bournemouth's Alex Scott sidelined due to injury, Tuchel sees a prime opportunity for Jobe to make an impact. “He deserves to impress,” he added, clearly excited about Jobe’s potential as he prepares for the upcoming international fixtures. As the brothers gear up for a possible appearance together, it’s worth noting that they wouldn’t be the first siblings to wear the England jersey. Gary and Phil Neville last played together for the Three Lions in 2004, but the family legacy goes back even further to the Charlton brothers, who were part of the 1966 World Cup-winning squad. Jobe’s journey has seen significant growth over the past year. Initially, he seemed hesitant after his switch to Dortmund, often playing it safe and not troubling defenses much. Even his manager, Niko Kovac, was surprised at how long it took him to settle in. However, Jobe has worked hard in the gym to enhance his physicality and has gained confidence as he became a regular in the squad. Recently, Kovac has deployed him in a more advanced position, allowing Jobe to showcase his pace and pressing intensity. His performance in the recent 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich was a standout, marking a real turning point in his adaptation to the Bundesliga. With his recent form, all eyes will be on Jobe as he aims to make a memorable impression in England's upcoming matches.
