Bobb's Late Heroics Propel Fulham to Vital Win Over Coventry
In a thrilling encounter, Oscar Bobb netted his first Premier League goal for Fulham, propelling his team to a much-needed victory against Coventry and steering them clear of the relegation zone. Bobb showcased his remarkable talent in the 80th minute, weaving through defenders before curling a shot into the far corner. This goal marked his second since joining Fulham for £27 million from Manchester City in January. With this win, Fulham celebrated their first away success in nine matches, a streak that had extended back to February. Just a week earlier, they had finally broken their winless drought in the league by defeating Hull City. Josh King nearly gave Fulham an early lead, striking the post and putting Coventry on notice. The visitors controlled much of the game, leaving Frank Lampard's side languishing near the bottom of the table. Coventry struggled to make an impact in Fulham's half, managing only fleeting moments of possession that failed to truly test goalkeeper Bernd Leno. It was a sobering afternoon for the home fans, who had been buoyed by a 4-1 victory over Newcastle in their last match. Both teams, starting the day in the relegation zone, displayed a lack of quality. King missed a golden opportunity in the 18th minute, firing a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar, while Iwobi’s follow-up went wildly off target. At the other end, Bobby Thomas couldn’t connect properly with a free-kick from Jack Rudoni, sending his header astray, and Brandon Thomas-Asante squandered a chance after a promising run from Rudoni. A poor back pass from Antonee Robinson gave Thomas-Asante another opportunity, but his attempt was easily gathered by Leno, highlighting Coventry's struggles to capitalize on half-chances. Fulham dominated possession but, true to their season's narrative, couldn’t convert that into goals. Milan van Ewijk nearly gifted them one with a deflection that struck the side-netting from Robinson's low cross. Just before halftime, Calvin Bassey went down in the box, pleading for a penalty after a tussle with Thomas-Asante. Referee Adam Herczeg remained unmoved, and replays showed both players were equally engaged. The video assistant referee had its say again early in the second half when Iwobi was adjudged not to have handled the ball after a free-kick from Rudoni struck him while he was in a natural position. Coventry's hopes took a hit when their in-form player, Thomas, limped off just before the hour mark, making way for Manchester City loanee Stephen Mfuni. After a series of substitutions, Coventry seemed to gain some momentum, but that was abruptly halted when Bobb struck decisively with ten minutes left on the clock. As Coventry pushed for an equalizer, Matt Grimes saw a powerful shot blocked, and a late penalty shout for handball against Shea Charles was dismissed, as his arms were tucked close to his body.
