Burnley Part Ways with Nicky Hayen After Disappointing Lincoln Loss

Burnley has decided to part ways with Nicky Hayen after just 14 games at the helm, following a crushing 4-1 loss to Lincoln that plunged the Clarets into the Championship relegation zone. Hayen, who took over in the summer as Scott Parker’s permanent successor, could only manage one victory during his short tenure—a 4-0 win against Watford on October 10. His first match saw Burnley edge past Notts County in the Carabao Cup on penalties, and they initially showed promise by coming back from 2-0 down to draw against West Ham. However, a series of disappointing results soon followed, including heavy defeats at West Brom and Norwich, alongside an early cup exit at Bradford. Expectations were high this season, as Burnley aimed to bounce back into the Premier League after being relegated, but they now find themselves in a precarious position. A recent comeback victory from Wolves at Turf Moor left Hayen’s future hanging by a thread, prompting the club to take decisive action. A statement from the club read: "Burnley Football Club has dismissed head coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect. The board has taken this decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season." In his post-match press conference, Hayen expressed his frustration, saying, "It’s frustrating for everyone, especially the fans. I want to apologize to them, but I know it doesn’t matter because it’s another hard defeat for them, and I can understand their criticism." He acknowledged the need for results, stating, "I will keep on working hard as long as I have the chance. But there will be a day if it carries on like this that it stops. I know it’s a really tough defeat and something to think about for the board."
