Celtic kept their grip on the Scottish Premiership, edging past Hibernian at Easter Road to maintain a four-point lead at the summit of the table. The win, however, did little to alleviate Hibs' struggles, as they continue to linger at the bottom of the league.
The match kicked off with a bang, as Owen Elding put Hibernian ahead just three minutes in, sending the home fans into a frenzy. But the jubilation was short-lived; just two minutes later, Celtic equalized thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Jason Kerr, who inadvertently headed the ball into his own net from a corner.
Celtic's record signing, Kasper Hogh, returned to the starting lineup but struggled to find his rhythm, missing key opportunities that could have put his team in front. Yet it was Camilo Duran who ultimately found the net, scoring his 10th goal of the season with a powerful shot from the edge of the box just before half-time.
Despite a late surge from Hibs, including a desperate attempt with defender Grant Hanley pushed forward, they couldn't find an equalizer. Mika Baur had a solid effort from distance that tested Celtic’s keeper, Raphael Sallinger, but the champions held firm to secure the win.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill praised his team's resilience, especially after coming back from an early setback. "Given the circumstances, I thought it was our best win of the season," he said. "We didn’t play particularly well, but the character showed by the side was impressive."
On Hogh's ongoing goal drought, O'Neill remained optimistic. "The goals will come; I genuinely believe that," he remarked, urging patience for the young striker.
Unfortunately for Celtic, Alistair Johnston's return was cut short due to another injury concern, leaving O'Neill worried about the defender's fitness moving forward.
Hibernian's new manager, Marink Reedijk, reflected positively on his side's performance despite the defeat. "I think we were the equals of Celtic today," he stated. "We fought hard and created chances, and I believe we deserved at least a point."
In a match filled with intensity and drama, Celtic's win highlighted their determination to stay atop the league, while Hibs remain in search of their first league victory since August.
