Chelsea Faces Injury Blow with Maxence Lacroix Out Until January
Chelsea's new signing Maxence Lacroix has been a key player this season, starting 10 out of 11 games since joining from Crystal Palace. However, the club's hopes have taken a hit as he is expected to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a serious hamstring injury. Reports from multiple sources indicate that the 26-year-old defender could be out until January, potentially missing as many as 10 matches. The injury occurred just before halftime during Wednesday's Carabao Cup encounter against Liverpool, where Lacroix was trying to block a shot. Manager Xabi Alonso has been cautious when discussing the extent of Lacroix's injury. Ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester United, he stated, "Max picked up an injury, and we expect that he's not going to be ready before the international break. So he will be a few weeks out." This injury is a setback for Alonso, especially since Lacroix has been a mainstay in defense, with only Morgan Rogers featuring more frequently for Chelsea this season. The Blues do have some depth in their defensive ranks, with players like Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Josh Acheampong ready to step in. However, both Jorrel Hato and Aaron Anselmino are also currently dealing with injuries. When pressed about potential replacements for Lacroix, Alonso mentioned, "With Max's injury, we have Wes, we have Levi, and Josh could play as well as centre-back. Jorrel, when he is back with the team, is an option. Wes has played well, and even if he missed the penalty in the shootout, he had a good game. I saw many positives from his performance." In addition to Lacroix's injury, Alonso shared that goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is getting a special mask fitted to play through a broken jaw, while midfielder Moises Caicedo escaped injury concerns after the Liverpool match. Currently sitting fifth in the Premier League with 13 points from eight matches, Chelsea has managed only one clean sheet in that stretch, making Lacroix's absence all the more concerning.
