Gateshead FC's Takeover on the Brink Amid Ownership Confusion

Gateshead FC finds itself in a precarious position at the bottom of the National League, managing a mere four points so far this season.
The anticipated takeover by the Flacks Group is reportedly unraveling, primarily due to the involvement of a third party. The American investment firm, founded by Manchester native Michael Flacks, revealed in an open letter that the deal is at risk after learning that Shoreline Limited had previously engaged in negotiations to buy the club.
Flacks Group claims that Shoreline attempted to secure the club but later filed court documents to declare their agreement invalid. This prompted Flacks to initiate talks with the current owners, hoping to finalize the takeover.
Earlier this month, it seemed the Flacks Group was on the verge of completing the acquisition, pending approval from the Independent Football Regulator (IFR). However, complications arose when they discovered Shoreline's continued involvement.
Despite reaching out for clarification, Shoreline has reportedly remained silent regarding their stake in Gateshead. Flacks Group also accused Shoreline of pursuing ownership of another club in the English Football League (EFL).
"We needed Shoreline to confirm in writing that it would give up any ownership claim it might have over Gateshead FC," the letter stated.
They stressed that this was a straightforward request, especially since Shoreline's own legal battle aims to confirm the cancellation of their purchase agreement.
Without this written assurance, Flacks Group expressed concern that their takeover could lead to disputes. "Unfortunately, despite their legal case stating they do not wish to own the club, Shoreline has refused to provide the needed confirmation."
The situation is further complicated by Shoreline's reported interest in acquiring another EFL club, which raises regulatory questions about dual ownership in English football. Flacks Group believes resolving Gateshead's ownership issues is crucial not only for their potential takeover but also for Shoreline's plans.
For Gateshead, the troubles continue both on and off the pitch, adding to the anxiety of supporters. The team has struggled mightily, securing only four points from 14 league games and suffering eight consecutive defeats, leaving them a daunting 11 points from safety.
The club is still without a manager after parting ways with Lee Cattermole earlier this month, and players and staff experienced late wage payments for September.
Given the current circumstances, Flacks Group has concluded that progressing with the takeover is unfeasible and may be forced to withdraw from the deal. They stated this is not their preferred outcome, emphasizing their commitment to working with the IFR to find a resolution with Shoreline for the benefit of the club.
