Arsenal may not have dazzled in attack against Hull, but their defense was rock solid. With their seventh clean sheet in ten Premier League matches, a lot of the credit goes to the center-back duo of Gabriel and Ezri Konsa.
Saliba’s return to fitness adds pressure on Konsa, but based on his current form, he might just hold onto his starting spot. One highlight of Konsa's performance was a crucial last-minute block on Mohamed Ali-Cho, who threatened to exploit a gap on the break.
Instead of basking in his own glory, Konsa was quick to challenge the referee over a foul call, showing his commitment to the game. By the final whistle, he had dominated his duels, winning all seven, and his passing accuracy was impressive with only two misplaced out of 53 attempts.
Since joining Arsenal, Konsa has made a significant impact. Although there was an early scare when Elliot Stroud nearly scored, the Gunners now boast an impressive 444 minutes without conceding in the league.
While Martin Odegaard secured the win, Konsa's contributions were vital. Saliba, who is set to regain fitness with a run-out for Arsenal's U21s this Sunday, will have to work hard to reclaim his place.
Over at Nottingham Forest, manager Oliver Glasner hinted at changes after their loss to Brentford. Only two players came into the lineup for the clash against Manchester City, but one of them, skipper Ryan Yates, made a significant impact in his first start of the season.
Yates brought the intensity that Forest needed, disrupting City’s rhythm and energizing the crowd during quieter moments. His efforts even sparked a counter-attack that led to a dramatic third goal.
While Delap took the player of the match honors, Yates embodied the fighting spirit that fans have yearned for during a tough stretch. His pre-game speech was so inspiring that Glasner admitted he had never experienced anything quite like it in his managerial career.
As for Manchester City, their supporters might be questioning whether they could have held their ground better against Forest. With three consecutive defeats, the issues are piling up.
"We didn’t match the intensity today; we need to figure out why," said Maresca. Defensive mistakes led to goals, with Gvardiol getting caught out for the opener and other players failing to assert themselves.
City started the season strong with seven wins, but as teams begin to figure out how to stifle their game, worries are growing.
And what about Spurs? Hopes were high after three straight wins, but a lackluster 1-0 defeat to Leeds proved they still have a long way to go.
Spurs generated just one clear chance at Elland Road, a disappointing stat that even Roberto De Zerbi acknowledged. Despite a contentious red card incident, Spurs failed to impress, with their only meaningful threat coming from a late header.
The team has had the second-most shots in the league this season but has only managed to score ten goals. This glaring issue will need addressing if De Zerbi hopes to steer Spurs towards European competition.
Leeds, on the other hand, celebrated a much-needed win thanks to Noah Okafor's second-half strike. Coach Daniel Farke’s substitutions proved pivotal, as Okafor and Harry Wilson combined just moments after entering the fray.
This victory breaks a dry spell for Leeds, who had looked promising earlier in the season. With their defense tightening up, they remain in the conversation for European spots, especially with summer signing Tarik Muharemovic showcasing his skills at the back.
He led the match with 13 clearances, bringing his season total to an impressive 85, the most in the Premier League. Elland Road has become a fortress, with Leeds now unbeaten in their last nine home league games.
