Naderi's Late Heroics Propel Rangers to Cup Final
Ryan Naderi emerged as the hero for Rangers, scoring a late winner to break Aberdeen’s resistance and secure a spot in the Premier Sports Cup final. The first half was lackluster, with Rangers managing just a single shot on target as Aberdeen's defense held firm. However, the Dons ramped up their game after the break, bringing more intensity to the match. Despite facing relentless pressure, Aberdeen looked set to hold on until the 83rd minute. Naderi capitalized on a strike from James Penrice, deftly redirecting it into the net for his eighth goal of the season, sealing a 1-0 win at Hampden Park. Rangers, who came into the match unbeaten in ten games, were the clear favorites against a patched-up Aberdeen side missing five defenders due to injury or suspension. Nicky Devlin made his first start of the season, highlighting the makeshift nature of the Dons' lineup. Derek McInnes, Rangers' manager and a former Cup winner with Aberdeen in 2014, made some surprising changes, including dropping midfielder Dan Neil. Tuur Rommens started in his place while Badredine Bouanani took the field instead of Djeidi Gassama. Aberdeen faced an early setback when Emmanuel Gyamfi injured himself during a tackle and was replaced by Stuart Armstrong. Rangers' defense was tested in the 23rd minute as Nesta Guinness-Walker broke through, forcing a save from goalkeeper Ivor Pandur. Captain Kevin Nisbet nearly put Aberdeen ahead with a close header, while Naderi also missed with a hooked effort that sailed over the bar. As the first half drew to a close, Aberdeen's goalkeeper Marius Müller was forced to parry a low drive from Bouanani, and Naderi narrowly missed connecting with a cross from Nico Raskin. In the second half, the match opened up, with Pandur saving a deflected shot from Nisbet. Müller continued to shine for Aberdeen, blocking several attempts from Rangers as they bombarded the Dons' goal. On a rare counter, Nisbet's shot was deflected wide, but the pressure was mounting on Aberdeen. Finally, Bouanani passed back to Penrice, whose strike drew Naderi in to finish from close range, breaking the deadlock and sending Rangers into the final.
