Non-league side Harborough Town has made a splash by signing Kyle Hudlin, one of the tallest outfield players in professional football. Standing at a staggering 6ft 9in (2.06m), the 26-year-old brings a unique presence to the pitch.
Hudlin, who has an impressive football resume, is set to feature in Harborough's FA Cup first-round match against League One's Leyton Orient this Saturday. His previous stints include clubs like Solihull Moors, Huddersfield Town, and Newport County, and he recently played for Nam Dinh in Vietnam's top league.
Harborough's manager, Mitch Austin, expressed his excitement about the new signing, stating, "His attributes will give us more firepower going forward. I'm delighted to welcome him to the club." There’s no doubt that Hudlin’s height and skills could make a significant impact.
The Birmingham native has a solid track record, having scored 17 goals in 69 appearances for Solihull Moors, including a crucial goal in the 2022 National League play-off final. After his time at Solihull, he moved to Huddersfield, gaining valuable experience in the Championship while also having loan spells with AFC Wimbledon, Burton Albion, and Newport before departing the Terriers in July 2025.
Austin recalled, "I remember watching Kyle score for Solihull in the promotion final at the London Stadium and have kept an eye on his career ever since." Their paths crossed through a mutual friend, and once Austin discovered Hudlin was a free agent, he jumped at the opportunity to bring him onboard.
Hudlin is the latest addition to a growing list of players with EFL experience at Harborough, joining ex-Wigan Athletic winger Michael Jacobs and former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga.
The last time Harborough Town reached this stage of the FA Cup was during the 2024-25 season, where they faced defeat against Reading in the second round. With Hudlin in their ranks, they’ll be hoping for a different outcome this time around.
