Forest Roar Back with 3-1 Victory Over City: Delap Shines Bright

Nottingham Forest put an end to their goal drought in spectacular fashion, triumphing 3-1 over Manchester City at the City Ground.
Liam Delap was the star of the show, scoring twice to help his team secure their first home win of the season. After two straight league losses, many believed City would bounce back, but Forest's intensity proved too much for them.
For the Forest supporters, it had been a long wait—nearly six months and over eight hours of football—without a single goal at home. But that all changed in the sixth minute when Jair Cunha intercepted Josko Gvardiol, sprinted forward, and slotted it home with his left foot.
Just 12 minutes later, Delap made it two. Xaver Schlager beat former Forest player Elliot Anderson to a crucial ball in midfield, sending the striker racing through to fire in a powerful shot, marking his second goal for the club.
City were clearly rattled. Although James McAtee had a chance to extend the lead, it was Forest who looked more threatening. Enzo Fernandez squandered a header that should have leveled things up, and Erling Haaland had his shot cleared off the line by Cunha after rounding the keeper.
As the second half kicked off, Rayan Cherki pulled one back with a stunning shot, giving City a glimmer of hope. They pressed for an equalizer, but Morgan Gibbs-White unleashed Delap on the counter, and he curled in a beauty to send the home fans into raptures.
This victory not only lifts Forest out of the drop zone but also feels like a significant turning point for manager Oliver Glasner. Meanwhile, City finds themselves six points adrift of leaders Arsenal, facing the grim reality of being the first top-flight team in over a century to win their first seven matches and then lose three straight.
Glasner had hinted at the need for changes following their loss to Brentford, and while he made just two alterations, one was crucial: captain Ryan Yates made his first start of the season. His relentless energy and leadership set the tone, encouraging the crowd and facilitating the counter-attack that led to the decisive third goal.
Delap was undoubtedly the man of the match, but Yates embodied the fighting spirit that fans have yearned for during this tough stretch. The celebrations at the final whistle underscored the importance of this win.
For City, questions loom large. Should they have been so easily unsettled by Yates and Schlager's pressing? Defensive errors led to all three goals, revealing vulnerabilities in a team that once looked impenetrable. With seven wins to start the season, it seemed that Enzo Maresca's transition would be smooth, but now a pattern has emerged that could spell trouble ahead.
