Arsenal secured a solid 2-0 victory against Everton at the Emirates Stadium, bringing them level on points with league leaders Manchester City. After receiving a yellow card for stepping out of his technical area, Mikel Arteta is now keeping a close eye on his managerial counterparts who seem to be evading similar scrutiny.
In a humorous take on his situation, Arteta joked about the possibility of installing sensors on the sidelines. He was booked by referee Tony Harrington in the second half and is now at risk of a one-match touchline ban if he accumulates another yellow card.
"I do have to be careful, yeah," Arteta quipped. "I'm going to put sensors there! There are other managers who leave the touchline often, with no yellows to show for it. I’m compiling all of that footage to show I’m not the worst offender here."
The Gunners took the lead early, with Ezri Konsa finding the net in just the seventh minute from a Martin Ødegaard corner—marking their first set-piece goal of the season. Gabriel then secured the win with a well-timed header in the 68th minute, bouncing back from an injury scare that had him briefly on the ground.
Arteta praised Gabriel’s resilience, saying, "The mentality of the team reflects the individuals within it. Gabi’s a prime example. We were all concerned when he went down, but he insisted on continuing and went on to score. That’s the kind of spirit we need."
The Arsenal manager also shared that substitute Riccardo Calafiori picked up a minor issue during the match. He showered praise on Konsa for his seamless transition from Aston Villa to Arsenal, highlighting how well he’s integrated into the team despite not having a pre-season.
"Unbelievable," Arteta said. "He’s come to a massive club like Arsenal without a proper pre-season and is performing at a high level. The chemistry he’s building with Gabi is impressive, and we’re fortunate to have him."
On the other side, Everton’s manager David Moyes lamented his team’s sluggish start, marking a second consecutive defeat following last week’s loss to Chelsea. Reflecting on the performance, Moyes stated, "I don’t have many big thoughts on it. We didn’t reach a level good enough to win. A quick goal from Arsenal had us chasing the game, and while we improved in the second half, it wasn’t enough to turn things around. We were solid defensively but lacked in attack."
